Scene Spotter : Howl at the Moon
Tickle the ivories and follow me to the moon is the mantra of the Financial District’s new dueling piano bar, Howl at the Moon. Heloise Borden brings her best Billy Joel to this Scene Spotter. Let’s see is she can beat the resident champ!
Howl at the Moon Boston is the fifteenth location for the company which began 20 years ago. In an industry where there is no “typical” night – Howl at the Moon thrives on the engagement of its guests. From Billy Joel to Lady Gaga, Howl at the Moon’s pianists can play any of your favorite hits.
The concept of “dueling pianos” actually originated in the late 1890s, when ragtime piano players would duel to see who was more dexterous with the keys. Later, it became associated with New Orleans jazz piano that was based on the audience’s requests, now it’s become a staple of the bar scene!
