We’re getting a bit nostalgic this week with some amazing pop-punk artists bringing out our biggest feels in Baltimore, plus we even have some tunes for the beachy crowd and some huge artists who are about to blow up even bigger. Emo Reigns Supreme
We’re kicking things off this week with some fast chords, gang vocals, and plenty of emotions ringing through the air. One of Baltimore’s biggest shows of the summer features a conglomerate of pop-punk powerheads coming together for a night full of moshing and hollering. The Wonder Years, Tiny Moving Parts, and Tigers Jaw have each been releasing music for over a decade now, joining together with swarms of bands of the era to play countless tours and festivals, including several iterations of the long-running Vans Warped Tour. The pop-punk scene may be entering a nostalgic point, with the days of FuseTV and countless other outlets in the past, but this night is the perfect opportunity to stand tall and defend pop punk once again. The Dirty Days of Summer
While pop-punk may be your jams of yesteryear, there’s something to be said for the kind of music that makes you want to do nothing but grab a drink, hit the beach, and lay in the sand until you’re forcibly removed. June is here and nothing goes better with those late night sunsets than the sounds of The Dirty Heads. The reggae group, which has seen success touring with artists like Slightly Stoopid, Sublime With Rome, Pepper, and other seminal dub acts, put off touring for support of their late-2017 album, Swim Team, until the warmer weather arrived and the fans could enjoy it most. Expect to hear some new, mellow tunes from the Heads as they hit Philadelphia with Rebelution and 311 at Festival Pier on Thursday, June 7th, at Baltimore’s Pier Six Pavilion on Friday, June 8th, and at Blue Hills Bank Pavilion in Boston on Saturday, June 9th.
Styles You Never Would Have Expected
One of the most highly anticipated shows of Summer 2018 undoubtedly goes to Harry Styles and Kacey Musgraves. The ex-boy band wonder and the trippy country singer may seem an unlikely pairing at first, but given the depth and experimentation in everything from 70’s psych rock to modern dreampop found on both artists’ most recent albums (Styles’ 2017 self titled release and Musgraves’ Golden Hour from March) things start to seem more exciting. You’ll likely be confused for portions of the show, not sure if you’ve been swaying, crooning, or headbanging for the previous hour, but realize that despite neither having mainstream recognition as moving songsmiths, both possess a quality about their performance and music that will only continue to gain notoriety with the passing of time. Get in on the ground floor and catch Harry and Kacey make their mark on the Toyota Center in Houston on Thursday, June 7th.
