Live Music Week of January 17th, 2018

Book a Party

The best concerts in the country are right at the tip of your fingers! Howl’s Top Shows This Week features the most outstanding acts tearing through the country—and if you are an indie fan, you definitely won’t be disappointed! Passion Pit, Walk the Moon and Say Anything are playing on our cities’ most howlin’ stages and you don’t want to miss out!

Get Passionate

The brightest set of shows this week comes courtesy of Massachusetts Indietronica group, Passion Pit. Touring in support of 2017’s Tremendous Sea of Love, the album brought singer and creative force Michael Angelakos to face what’s most meaningful—producing music with meaning, power and real “passion” behind it. Drawing from his battle for mental health advocacy, the album’s proceeds continue to be dedicated to a Cambridge psychiatric research institute.

Passion Pit’s current tour effectively captures all of the band’s energy and emotion, releasing it in the form of sweet synthesizers and bright bursts of light. Passion Pit will be performing at Chicago’s Riviera Theatre on Wednesday, January 17th, Belly Up Aspen on Saturday, January 20th and The Ogden Theatre in Denver on Monday, January 22nd.

Walk Like You Howl

Heading to the moon is taking on a new meaning this week! Cincinnati’s Walk the Moon is headed coast-to-coast while in the midst of their “Press Restart Tour”. Behind the strength of last year’s new album, What is Nothing, the group kicks off a busy weekend on Friday, January 19th at the iHeartRadio ALTer EGO mega-show held at The Forum in Los Angeles. With indie icons like Beck, Spoon, The National, Dashboard Confessional, Cage the Elephant and Mumford & Sons all sharing the same stage, this is an absolutely can’t-miss performance!

Walk the Moon will then pick the tour back up at the Fillmore Philadelphia on Sunday, January 21st and is on Stage AE in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, January 23rd—performing both shows with Chicago’s Company of Thieves.

In Defense of Howlin’

Last but not least comes one of the most dominant and consistent voices in indie for nearly 20 years—the legendary Say Anything. Without a new album since 2016’s I Don’t Think It Is, the band is instead revisiting their classic albums for this circuit, performing Say Anything, …Is a Real Boy, and In Defense of the Genre in their entirety. Each stop on the tour will feature two nights of performances from the group and not even the deepest of tracks will be left out of the set.

The innovative “In Defense Anniversary Tour” began last November to celebrate ten years since In Defense’s release. Say Anything will wrap up their second show at Boston’s Paradise Rock Club tonight, January 17th before heading to Philadelphia for shows at the Trocadero Theatre on Friday, January 19th and Saturday, January 20th.
