Book a Party

Heading into April means music’s biggest acts are gearing up for an exciting summer ahead! But the spring is still nothing to scoff at, featuring some huge tours just rolling out and the last of the winter road warriors going out with a bang. It is peak time to catch tons of your favorites all at once and Howl’s Top Shows for this week features one of the world’s biggest pop groups, an electronic icon and more musical juggernauts rocking our howlin’ cities!

Just 5 Seconds Away

Even when the city is chilly, this group brings the heat! 5 Seconds of Summer is Australia’s most heart-melting pop group. Since emerging as a force while touring with One Direction in 2012, 5SOS has used perfect harmony and an intricate blend of genres to catapult themselves to international fame. While not shying away from the boy band influences of the 90’s, the group managed to separate themselves from the pack with a style and sound that distinctly borrows from the pop-punk wave of the mid-2000’s. Memories of All Time Low, Mayday Parade, and Boys Like Girls are bound to come rushing back at any 5 Seconds of Summer performance, and after reminiscing over the catalog of their influences, you realize that the swoony, pop stylings were never too far removed from the genre. 5SOS didn’t change the game, they’ve just altered the formula.

You can catch 5 Seconds of Summer in Boston at the Paradise Rock Club on Sunday, April 8th and at the Theater of the Living Arts on Monday, April 9th. The band’s newest single, “Want You Back” was released on February 22nd as a teaser for a brand new studio album.

Free to Experiment

The big lights, huge crowds, and parking nightmares of enormous stadium tours can become overwhelming for any concert goer. Luckily, some of the best acts are still playing the kinds of theatres that truly pull you in and immerse you in the show. Ty Segall is a master at making any venue feel like an oasis. The musician and his backing group, The Freedom Band, are of the premier in experimental and garage rock and utilize a bevy of sounds and effects to create an atmosphere that feels otherworldly. Pinning Segall to one genre is pointless and he’ll go out of his way to break down any musical boundary.

“I’d say the theme is anti-theme, and the idea is to be free”, he says when describing his most recent album Freedom’s Goblin. The mantra fits the songwriter’s live shows just as perfectly.

Ty Segall will be live at Dever’s Ogden Theatre on Thursday April 5th before making his way to Chicago to play the Vic Theatre on Sunday, April 8th.

The Tour Goes On

We have seen some huge artists tearing up the touring circuit over the last few weeks and so many are still making crowd’s howl! Lorde continues to bring Melodrama to crowds around the country, stunning Boston’s TD Garden next on Tuesday, April 3rd. Coming in with an even bigger week is the crown-jewel of R&B, Miguel, who’s unmissable show is coming to The Ballroom at Warehouse Live in Houston on April 3rd and San Antonio’s Aztec Theatre on Saturday, April 7th. Finishing up the week’s festivities is Pink, who is ready to close out a huge run on her Beautiful Trauma Tour. She will be in Pittsburgh’s PPG Paints Arena on Saturday, April 7th before her final shows at Boston’s TD Garden on Monday, April 9th and Tuesday, April 10th.
