Howl’s Top Shows This Week is full of mold-breakers, genre-benders and more! 2018 may just starting to stretch its legs and face the day, with no new album releases as of last Friday, but with a handful of singles out and highly-anticipated tours kicking off, we promise you’ll be more-than-caffeinated by the end of this week! Here are the top shows to be at from January 9th to January 16th in the cities that Howl with us the loudest!
Annie on the Big Stage
Indie-Pop queen St. Vincent (AKA Annie Clark) created tidal waves when her fifth album, Masseducation, dropped earlier this year. Powered by the strength of singles like “New York” and “Los Ageless”, the album received a “universally acclaimed” 88% rating from Metacritic with stellar reviews from Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and SPIN. Clark’s “Fear the Future Tour” is her first headlining faire since 2015, and if audiences have learned anything about St. Vincent over the past decade, prepare to be both sonically and visually floored.
The Fear the Future Tour kicks off tonight, January 9th, at Pittsburgh’s Stage AE and will tear through Cincinnati’s Taft Theater on Thursday, January 11th, the Chicago Theater on Friday, January 12th and The Fillmore Auditorium in Denver on Monday, January 12th.
Ump, Ump & Away
Grooves, improvisation and a boatload of lights—sound like your dream show? Then this is one week you do not want to miss as sensational jam group Umphrey’s McGee blazes through some of the most howlin’ cities in America! The band is celebrating 20 years of being one of the most undeniably fun bands to see live, featuring shows that often comprise of two sets where fans can even record!
Umphrey’s McGee will be following a similar route to St. Vincent, picking up at Stage AE in Pittsburgh on Thursday, January 11th before heading to Cincinnati for two shows at the Taft Theater on Friday, January 12th & Saturday, January 13th. They then wrap up a busy week at Chicago’s Park West on Sunday, January 14th to celebrate their brand-new album, it’s not us, and play its record release party.
Repeat Offenders
Katy Perry and Lana Del Rey may have been early out of the gate in 2018, but they are not slowing down just yet! The singers continue to perform their most sensory-focused sets to date as part of the “Lust for Life” (Del Rey) and “Witness” (Perry) tours. This week, Lana Del Rey will appear in Kansas City at the Sprint Center on Tuesday, January 9th, in Chicago at the United Center on Thursday, January 11th and at Boston’s TD Garden on Saturday, January 13th while Katy Perry will perform at San Antonio’s AT&T Center on Wednesday, January 10th.
