Women have helped run this genre and create career-defining work. There are countless albums with banger singles and dance hits, but what are five of the most iconic female pop albums of the past few decades?
1. Britney Spears: “…Baby One More Time” -What’s pop without Britney Spears? While every one of her albums could easily be considered iconic, the first album she released in 1999 quickly became a pop classic and was immensely successful.
2. Rihanna: “Good Girl Gone Bad” – This early 2000’s album produced countless pop hits like “Umbrella” and “Don’t Stop the Music.” Rihanna’s unique and powerful voice contributed majorly to the pop genre and gave us so many incredible songs. This album was topping charts and for good reasons.
3. Taylor Swift: “1989”– This album, released in 2014, marked a genre shift for this global superstar, and launched her into one of the peaks of her career. “1989” is full of hit singles such as “Blank Space”, “Shake it Off”, “Wildest Dreams” and more. Everybody knows the words to at least one of the songs on this album, whether on purpose or not.
4. Katy Perry: “Teenage Dream” – In 2010, Katy Perry released the album that pretty much defined her career. The jams and overall aesthetic of this album are what this singer is known for to this day. I can guarantee you have heard songs like “Firework” or “California Gurls” blasting in the summer, and probably even danced to it yourself.
5. Lady Gaga: “The Fame” – Pop queen Lady Gaga obviously has to be on this list. Her outrageous style and iconic looks made her success all the more powerful. “The Fame” gave us masterpieces such as “Paparazzi”, “Just Dance” and “Poker Face” that still cause a commotion on the dance floor today.
