Summertime
I don’t have to remind any Chicagoan about this city’s seasonal range. From October through May, Chicago experiences a blend of grey skies, temperatures that range from uncomfortable to unlivable, and a dearth of activity from north to south. But those months in between are what we are all here for. Outdoor patios, street festivals in every neighborhood, huge music fests like Lollapalooza, North Coast, and Riot Fest, incredible parks, and gorgeous beaches all over the coast of Lake Michigan give you a wide range of activities to choose from everyday. We live it up while we can, it always feels like it fades so fast.
Local Eateries
Al’s Beef, Giordano’s, Portillo’s are all fine and delicious establishments, but there is nothing better than having a lock on the best spot in your neighborhood. Every area of the city has a specialty, like tacos in Pilsen or halal in Ukrainian Village, but knowing which location is the top tier is a pleasure all in itself. Bonus points if you know the daily locations of the best food truck or street cart in your neighborhood.
Music Venues
Chicago’s more than a city of cuisine, though. It is also home to one of the city’s most bustling music scenes — and it is all thanks to the unbelievable venues! From jazz to blues and punk to metal, Chicago’s venues house shows of all kinds on a weekly basis. Most venues have existed for over 100 years, formerly being homes to local theater and operas, and many like the Aragon Ballroom, Riviera and Lincoln Hall have even stayed true to architectural form with painted ceilings and all; and that is not to discount places like the Subterranean, Elbo Room, Sleeping Village or smaller lounges like The Green Mill and Kingston Mines. There is never a shortage of incredible places to see the perfect show in Chicago.
